The wait for Slabtown Bridge in the Blue Mountains to re-open is now over.Director of Engineering and Public works, Reg Russworm tells us it actually re-opened October 16th, sooner than expected. Russworm says the original budget was close to one million dollars, but it was actually under 700 thousand to rebuild. The bridge was in desperate need of repair as it was constructed in the 30's with Ford Model T's in mind.Russworm says before building the new bridge, they added load restrictions on the roadway and couldn't even get their town snow plow or school busses across the bridge. Work began in the bridge replacement in the first week of September.
